Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
No doubt about it! His life changed humanity for ever. He only lived 33 years in this world before He return to the Father after He rose from the dead; yet it was enough to leave the most significant mark in human history.
The Author of life Himself; God came near and became a man. Totally out of love for you He left His throne in Heaven and walked this earth. His entire life led Him to that moment at the cross where He offered His life as a ransom to rescue us from our eternal separation from God.
Way, Truth, Life… Three unique words that He used to name Himself. There is a whole lot more that Scripture has to say about who Jesus was, but we’ll briefly share about these three.
I am the Way
The way to what? Well, He is the only way to salvation, the only way to the Father, and the only way for you to find who you are and what you are meant to be in this earth. Jesus is the shining light that guides our path in life. It wasn’t only about eternity; His mission is to get you back on course for your original purpose in life.
He is not the way to religion. That is not the reason He came. Religion binds people because it is based on human effort and human actions. He came to establish our relationship with the Father and He himself paved the way with His sacrifice:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)
In Christ we are not orphans anymore, we have a Father: Someone who loves us and cares for us. Someone who comes to bring out the best about ourselves, and gently gets rid of the darkness that once reigned in our hearts.
I am the Truth
The Bible says that in Jesus, all the fullness of God is found:
“And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” (Colossians 1:18-20)
“For in Him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Colossians 2:9-10)
All the answers to questions in the human heart are found in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the Truth. Truth is not a doctrine, or a teaching. Truth is a person: the person of Jesus the Son of God. Therefore, to know the Truth you must know Jesus. And this is available to all of us thanks to the sacrifice He did in the cross. All we have to do is believe.
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.”And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
“Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:34-36).
The Truth (Jesus) sets you free. All humans are born into bondage because of sin. Scripture says that those who are in sin are slaves, but Freedom by simply knowing Jesus. He is able to break the chains of your soul that hold you back. He is the Truth.
I am the Life
Every human is born with a God-shaped whole inside that only God can fill. This explains the emptiness people have inside when they don’t know God. It doesn’t matter what they do, there is never fullness of satisfaction. They try to fill the emptiness with all kinds of things this world has to offer…but none of these things can fill the emptiness inside.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3).
Humans were created to walk with God. Because of sin, our relationship with God is broken and therefore we can’t find fulfillment in life. Because of Jesus, our relationship with God is restored and He takes residence in our hearts.
He then becomes the Life inside of us that all of us have been searching for. No religion can’t do this, only a relationship with God through Jesus.
Jesus Himself said it the best with a conversation he had with a woman who was seeking for answers in John 4:
Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:13-14).
Jesus is the Life. Not any Life, but the Life of God; the true Life. You come to Him, invite Him to live inside of you and He will become in you that fountain of living water that springs up into everlasting life.
Jesus is the Way to Eternal Life. Jesus is the Truth to the questions in your life. And Jesus is the Life you have been searching. He loves you, more than you can never imagine. And if you don’t know Him, today; you are welcome to come present yourself to Him. He will forgive You of your sins, all you have to do is ask. He will give you a new heart, all you have to do is ask. And He will give you the life your heart has been searching for… again, all you have to do is ask.
If you don’t know Jesus, you can know Him today by simply asking Him to come into your life. You can pray something like this:
“Lord Jesus, I believe in You. I believe You gave Your Life, so that I can live. I pray that You wash away my sins, come into my life and be my Lord. Guide me from now on and fill me with Your Spirit that I may have fullness of life. Thank You Lord. I pray in Your Name, Amen.”
